Migrant Worker's Support Program
The Migrant Workers Support Program is funded by Economic and Social Development Canada, and administered in Thunder Bay in partnership between the Newcomer Legal Clinic, The Thunder Bay Multicultural Association, and the Neighbourhood Organization in Toronto.
Who is a Migrant worker?
Migrant workers are individuals who move to Canada for work, either as their main purpose or for survival. They are foreign nationals, not citizens or permanent residents, working in Canada.
They can enter through various programs, like the federal Temporary Foreign Worker Program (TFWP), including the Agricultural Stream and Seasonal Agricultural Worker Program (SAWP)
The aim of the program is to:
- Inform and support migrants in exercising their rights.
- Increase migrant workers’ awareness of their rights
- Help them access the services they need to exercise their rights
- Foster inclusion of migrant workers in the community
- Support migrant workers during emergency situations
- Develop coordinated support for temporary migrant workers in the community.
